That did it. Had a proxy setting set.....http://127.0.0.1:16823/proxy_on.pac. Unchecked that and now IE and Edge both work. That proxy appears to be a remnant from the anonimizer Lantern that I sometimes use.

I understand that, but that requires that you run each individual program to check for upgrades. I am seeking a program that will check the version number installed against a database of the most current programs and then inform me which programs have newer versions. Go ARMY!! LOL
