Go to nvidia control panel, manage 3d settings, program settings, add, google chrome, scroll down, vertical sync, fast, apply.

This will probably not help you as I assume that you've already done so but have you: Got all the necessary software to run games? Direct X, redistributable c++, netframework etc? Got all the necessary updated drivers for your gpu? Power plan set to High performance?

Don't know if this helps but I also have an external seagate hard drive about as old as yours. Once it stopped working for me, turns out the problem was the data cord. They are not that well made and may require a bit of adjustment as the data cord doesn't fit perfectly into the external HDD...

You'll get about 30-40 fps in gta v. 30 fps in BF1. You might have to turn the graphics down a little though. Wouldn't try playing PUBG with it..
