News How to Optimize Your GPU for Ethereum Mining

Well... this article went a bit under-appreciated lol Personally, thanks for the information! I think it is a little silly that people are so bent out of shape about the mining thing. All the gamers in the world could mine and it wouldn't make a difference in the situation right now. Might as...

News Improved Windows 11 Compatibility Checker Possibly Coming Today

Sounds like a series of angry emails to Zotac lol Oh man, sorry for your luck there. With it being so new I don't suppose there is a return/replacement option?

Shut Out of Windows 11: TPM Requirement Excludes Many PCs

I mean... this is mostly just fud... If you have purchased a manufactured system that is Windows Certified, or a motherboard that advertises Windows compatibility, then it has had TPM support since 2016 because it has been a requirement that long. If you have built your own, then almost all...

News Improved Windows 11 Compatibility Checker Possibly Coming Today

You totally have one, and it is probably partially enabled already. Bios -> Boot tab -> Secure Boot Menu From there you can turn things on and get things going... Depending on how you set things up, you may lose access to what you have on the drive when you turn things on and may need to create...

News Improved Windows 11 Compatibility Checker Possibly Coming Today

No kidding, I was looking at that today and ran across a forum post that mentioned that EVERY Asus motherboard has TPM either as a physical module, or virtual secured software module, and I was like... yeah... don't remember seeing that on my motherboard, nowhere in the promo materials, nothing...

News AMD B550 Chipset Specs Detailed

Curious to see how the PCIe4 plays a role in all of this. The 16 lanes for the GPU are on the CPU rather than the chipset, so we could still well see gen4 support for GPUs coming (even if nobody has a use for it yet), while PCIe3 is still more than fast enough of a back-bone for SATA, USB, M.2 etc.

    Question SSD Options

Getting ready to rebuild my ancient i7 2600 based system, and looking at storage options: 1) Intel Optane with budget SSD Positives: for my most-used files it should be about the same performance as high end m.2 SSD, and I could get a nice large 1-2TB Intel 660p in my budget. But the best part...

    [SOLVED] HDR via TV

So, I thought that I was on 1903, but I was aparantly on 1809; after the update this week I gave the settings another go and things are substantially better in RGB mode, much happier now. Still really hard to play HDR video on Youtube as it will only render on CPU, but after downloading a few...

    Question Ryzen 5 3600x vs i7 8700k ?

hmmmm, very interesting and good to know. Only MSI board I have ever bought is in my wife's PC, which was taking a chance and was just before MSI started becoming a real player in the motherboard market. On the plus side, it is ~6-7 years old and it still humming along... but soooo many things...

    Question Ryzen 5 3600x vs i7 8700k ?

Dude, the 3700x costs about as much as I want to pay for a CPU and mobo combined... why would I do that? What possible performance benefit would that offer me? I am not doing crazy video editing, or streaming, or multi-tasking, or database mining, or a VM farm. I just can't imagine a workload...

    Question Ryzen 5 3600x vs i7 8700k ?

With a B450 chipset, is there a firmware upgrade path to make it work without needing an older CPU to flash it with? I technically have access to a 2000 series part that I built for a friend last year, but I really don't want to borrow their machine, tear it all apart, and put everything back...

    Question Ryzen 5 3600x vs i7 8700k ?

So, I know on all of the old forums and reviews everyone is pushing the R5-3600x... but most of that is due to $150 list-price premium on the Intel side. Looking on Microcenter I can pick up an i7-8700k for $280, plus a decent mid-range z370 or z390 motherboard for $120, plus a combo discount of...

    [SOLVED] HDR via TV

Update; Not perfect yet, but much improved! DVI appears to be limited to HDMI 1.4 features. HDMI out on the GPU unlocked a bunch of features where it can now do RGB 4:4:4, 8bit, and 'full' dynamic range which seems to be the key to making things work. Then in Windows settings when I flip the...

    [SOLVED] HDR via TV

I didn't even think that the cable could be the issue. Now that I think of it, I have had this DVI to HDMI cable for 10+ years... probably not rated for 'high bandwidth' applications. I'll pick up a newer HDMI to HDMI cable and follow up... but now that I think on that I believe my GPU only has...
