550w may be enough power but it depends on what psu you have. If you have a crappy psu I wouldn't push it that far. I suggest getting the XFX psu you suggested as it will be a very good unit.

The only psu in your list I would oc with is the XFX one however, it's wattage is kind of low. The next best psu in that list is probably the Cooler master g550m but I wouldn't overclock with it as it's not the most reliable unit. I would have to agree in saying that you should just save up for...

The build looks pretty good but I would definitely get a different psu. Anything by Seasonic or XFX. EVGA's supernova line of psu's is really good to.

Sounds to me like you may have a motherboard problem. Do you know anyone with a compatible cpu that will let you test to make sure that the cpu isn't the problem? Also could you provide a parts list?

Sounds like you would greatly benefit from an ssd in your system to greatly decrease load times. What kind of budget do you have?

I'm not really sure what your asking but I assume with the title you've given this post that your asking if your cd/dvd drive is faulty. I would say without a doubt that your dvd/cd drive is dead and/or almost dead.

I personally prefer to go with Asus motherboards but either should work very well for you. If you like the look of the Asus motherboard then I suggest going with it because you may never be happy with the look of your system with the Gigabyte mobo.

It should work fine but you may want to be a little more specific about which parts your computer has so it's easier to help. You could have any compatible i3 in your unknown h81 motherboard.
