thanks for the advice, i sorted it now, its not the settings ive realised its the line voltage ive been advised to get a UPS to stabilise my voltage i figured it out by accident because everytime i turn off my external HDD when the PC boots up it works everytime now OC it to 3.5ghz 975mhz ram

hello, ive been trying to unlock my cpus host clock control and keeping it at 266mhz which is what it runs at when on auto and memory timings are what corsair tested them at 5-5-5-15 2.2v, also according to cpuz vcore is 1.376 dont want to go any higher without asking someone more experienced...

Also in Bios and boot menu theres option to boot from external drive so i know this is possible, im guessing i have to install some USB drivers right? i thought they were included with the XPSP2 setup

hey all, just finished building a new PC and i want to install XP on a external USB drive, its the only HDD and also it is detected in BIOS and even in the windows setup when u have the options to create partitions, but when i press enter to install it mentions the windows setup cannot properly...

Mind you my personal record is my 6800 GT gpu temp going to 120 degrees centigrade, that was madness :)

its a p4 prescott 3.0ghz, yeah i know one inefficient beast, got a temp HSF with some thermal paste while i wait for the arctic stuff to come in the post, now down to 60 degrees at max

have to say the fps doesnt drop anymore, i was freaked out though when i removed the HSF, the thermal paste was cementing the cpu to the heatsink and went to dust when i pried it off and when i put it back on the cpu temp went up to 90 degrees now i got a temp HSF while i wait for one in the...

yeah fair point there, it seems my HSF is more clogged than i thought, hell theres slabs of dust in here....also the thermal paste is rock hard and it took my serious effort to pry the cpu off the HSF, using another one now from another PC and the temp is now 37 at idle when yesterday it was 50...

Ok cheers for all the tips, because my cpu is at 90 degrees at the moment so i better get it sorted fast :twisted:
