Unless I'm missing something, all you have to do is connect it and it will see it with all the OS and User files on it. FWIW, I's play it safe and install it only after the new SSD is setup, loaded, and booting to avoid confusion or overwriting your old HDD.

I'm not expert in this but I'm pretty sure your armature has almost worn out and become irreparably unusable. Unless you have parts and the skill to find and fix it, I think you need 'hard' data recovery :/
