[SOLVED] WD Elements portable HDD, help me understand HD Tune graphs

I recently bought two WD Elements portable HDDs. Both are MFFZDA WDBU6Y0020BBK and both are identified by Windows and HD Tune as "WD Elements 2621 (2000 GB)". I am a bit puzzled by the shape of the graphs (see screenshots below) and by the huge difference between the two. The first transfer...

[SOLVED] Is my notebook going to die soon?

Thanks guys. Yes, of course a machine never literally “dies”. You could always repair or replace individual components, if it’s worth it. But, what I am actually worried about is losing more data, firstly, and wasting money, secondly, because some other components are likely to fail, either...

[SOLVED] Is my notebook going to die soon?

It's an ASUS N750JK (i7 4700HQ CPU, 16 GB RAM, graphic cards HD 4600 + GeForce GTX850M, Windows 10 on a 840EVO 250GB SSD). It always had some problems -the original motherboard had to be replaced by ASUS when it was in guarantee- but recently it had some more issues that I described in a couple...

[SOLVED] ASUS notebook having sudden shutdowns -- headphone jack induced short, overheating, or something else?

Hi Fix_that_Glitch, thanks for your advice. I will clean more thoroughly the air vents. Please notice that the ASUS N750 has an aluminum chassis which in theory should dissipate heat very well. Still, this notebook is hot! No fan speed settings in BIOS. SpeedFan 4.5.2 reads fan speed...

[SOLVED] ASUS notebook having sudden shutdowns -- headphone jack induced short, overheating, or something else?

Two days ago My ASUS N750JK notebook crashed after I inserted the headphone jack into the headphone hole. The same headphones work fine on a different notebook. Actually, I had briefly put the jack in the mic port, my bad, then I immediately moved it to the correct headphone hole, then Windows...

Questions about swapping out my HDD for an SSD (ASUS N550JK)

By the way, you might want to restore a fresh system from Backtracker rather than migrate, if you don't mind reinstalling.

Questions about swapping out my HDD for an SSD (ASUS N550JK)

@ACKenway Besides backing up your data, I'd also use the ASUS Backtracker utility to create a recovery USB stick in case you need to restore the system from scratch. http://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1008641

Questions about swapping out my HDD for an SSD (ASUS N550JK)

Boogieman: Sorry to intrude, but may I ask why? I am just curious as I own an ASUS N notebook with an 840 EVO (replaced) drive.

    Do I need a Self-Encrypting Drive (SED)?

Bitlocker is only available on Professional and Enterprise Windows versions. Besides, if you don't have hardware encryption (as in SED), Bitlocker is just software encryption. I'd rather have hardware encryption. Having said that, I am still trying to understand how I set the hardware...

Samsung 840EVO SSD self-encrypted drive on ASUS notebook, how to set the HW encryption password?

I have a Samsung 840EVO SSD disk on an Asus notebook, N series. The good news is the 840EVO is a hardware self-encrypted drive (SED). The not-so-good news is I need to rely on some third party software to set the hardware encryption password. My question is: how do I do that? I could use the...

    ASUS WebStorage. Seriously?

Besides, THREE copies (PC + ext HDD + cloud storage) is usually safer than just two :) provided the sync software does not fail and erase everything! :D

    HD to SSD error message

Before starting, double check your BIOS settings and that you have the latest BIOS version. Read any documentation provided by the manufacturer, too.

    ASUS WebStorage. Seriously?

@buenopure4 An external HDD is a good thing, but cloud storage allows you to access your data from anywhere, even when you are on the move, for instance from your smartphone, tablet, from your friends' computer, and so on. Also, cloud storage saves your data in case of catastrophic events in...

    HD to SSD error message

Or, you could create a recovery media (on DVD or USB, I am not familiar with Samsung Ultrabooks, but I'll bet there must be a way) and start a master restore from there. In other words, reinstall Windows onto the SSD rather than clone the HDD.
