Okay but how will the nas get an IP if it isnt assigned? I can see the nas IP but I cant set it. Does it just revert to a default IP when not set? Anyway I think I'm just going to get a gigabit switch. That way I can xfer files faster to multiple devices and bypass the router.

Its a brand new comtrend router. Cant imagine it wont do 1000mbs. The ethernet adapter on the pc says 1000mbs. When I try to force 1000 mbs I lose my connection and have to set it back to auto-negotiate. The PCs cable is cat6. the nas cable is 5e. Maybe the mismatch?
