[SOLVED] Startup Repair vs Restore points

I do use ccleaner (the free version), but I do not have it set to start when the PC starts-up. There are two options in ccleaner to auto-start the program and both are unchecked. I've also used the DISM and SFC commands and neither one reported an error. I also use "EaseUD Todo" to backup my...

[SOLVED] Startup Repair vs Restore points

On my Windows 10 Pro, my Restore Points disappear after 30 minutes. There's plenty of room too (16 percent, 74GB). When they vanish, an Event Viewer entry (Volsnap) says "The oldest shadow copy of volume C: was deleted to allow shadow copies created afterward and marked for delete to be...

[SOLVED] Clicking a file opens default program but not the actual file ?

Thanks. I'll backup my registry and take a look. I usually don't play with registry settings but occasionally I have. Maybe first I'll un-assign the extension to the program, then re-assign it and see if that fixes it. Maybe too, I'll compare the registry setting on my Win 7 for the program and...

[SOLVED] Clicking a file opens default program but not the actual file ?

Grobe - Since I already had a shortcut to the program on my desktop, I tried what you suggested. It worked. The file opened within the program. Since I was able to open the program by dragging the file over the shortcut, what might that indicate? The file extension IS associated with the program.

[SOLVED] Clicking a file opens default program but not the actual file ?

When I click on a file in Windows Explorer (Windows 10 Pro) that has an npp extension, it opens the associated program (Art Explosion) but it does not open the actual file. I have to select "Open" within the program and then select the file in order to open the file. On my Windows 7 PC, clicking...

Question Handbrake - Combine multiple VBO files

Thanks TerryLaze. I tried that. Unless I did something wrong, I could only load one video file. I did notice I could load a Folder on the Source Selection. That option appears to load the individual VBO files that are related. If there is more than one "group" of related VBO files, each "group"...

Question Handbrake - Combine multiple VBO files

I hope I'm posting in the correct forum. I use Handbrake for converting video files. Last week I converted a 30 minute video. It was in 2 VBO files. Before I converted it, I loaded the 1st VBO file into Windows Media Player and WMP knew enough to continue playing through the 2nd VBO file. When...

Kaspersky disc received, but I didn't order it

I received a disc in my postal mail box today from a "Fulfillment Center" in Minneapolis. The outside of the flat paperboard envelope says "Backup Software Enclosed". On the disc is printed "Kaspersky Total Security". It also has an Order ID and what looks like a product registration number...

System Restore being deleted. Bad setting?

Grrr. Today I have no restore points. The only error in "Event View>>System Logs>>System" in the last 24 hours was "volsnap". The Event Properties said: Event ID: 15 The description said: "The shadow copies of volume C: were aborted because of insufficient paged heap."

System Restore being deleted. Bad setting?

Night Owl - I take it to mean defrag and/or googleupdater might be the cause of my restore points disappearing. A few days after your post I set defrag to manual instead of automatic. I think I also removed everything google related. I then manually set a restore point. A day later my restore...

System Restore being deleted. Bad setting?

Greetings. I have Windows 7 Home Premium. My restore points are deleted every few days. I'm pretty sure it is not a virus. My system protection Current Usage with 1 set of restore points is 4.61 GB. Maximum Usage is 20% (182 GB). Probably overkill, but someone said to increase the max. Event...

looking to add auto shutdown to UPS

Maybe I jumped to a conclusion too soon. I've read elsewhere that the personal edition of Powerchute has an option to safely shutdown the PC after a predetermined amount of time or when the battery is below a certain threshold. I also read it can force the PC to hibernate. I guess I'll just...

looking to add auto shutdown to UPS

I was given a UPS recently as a gift (APC BN1080G). Haven't hooked it up yet but I did read on-line documentation about it. It uses PowerChute Personal edition software. One thing I wish it had was an auto-shutdown feature. That option apparently only comes with the Business edition of...
