It's definitely compatible, and with the i7-7700 you have it will be a beast of a PC.

The Ryzen is better than the i5 in terms of multi-core performance, but the i5 has better quad core/single core performance. But either one are good choices since the GPU will bottleneck either one anyway.

Very strange problem, those specs should easily run those games at 1080p at ultra settings. Check the NVIDIA settings, make sure H1Z1 and GTA V are in "Prefer Max Performance" or something along those lines. And make sure other settings listed there seem normal.

As DRagor said, that's definitely a dead video card. If possible try the card on somebody else's PC. If it doesn't work either, get a new GPU.
