Computer Suddenly Shut Off. Won't Start Now

"Grounding out" means that the component is bridging the gap between it's supply current and ground with no resistance. Essentially the same result could be found if you took the +12v connector, and used a paper clip to connect it straight to a black connector. Any component with a defect or...

ASRock board died just before a year and a half

Clearing the CMOS is among several of the troubleshooting steps I've tried. The board doesn't complain with no RAM in the slots all which tells me the board is not POSTing. I pulled out the board just a moment ago and the traces from around the MOSFETs actually separated from the board itself.

ASRock board died just before a year and a half

I've owned several boards from several different brands and this one takes the cake for the shortest lived board I've ever owned. I know this was probably just a bad one of the bunch but ASRock support refused to RMA it for the random not waking from idle and refusing to shut down issues. I...

ASRock board died just before a year and a half

I had an ASRock 990FX Extreme3 which died just before a year and a half. This is out of warranty so I will have to front the cost of the board either way. The computer was running on a stock FX-6300, 8GB of RAM, and an R9 270X, so I wasn't overloading it at all. I tested it on a power supply...

    PC Crash (while under stress)

The Corsair would be good. Not sure about EVGA(and Etasis as an OEM, which is a no name OEM in my book.) as a PSU brand, I've only used their video cards in the past. The EVGA does have a 10 year warranty though, that's attractive. The Corsair you linked to will either be made by Seasonic, or...

    PC Crash (while under stress)

I would opt for a 750w or 850w(continuous supply) for more longevity. Capacitors can age up to 10-30% per year dependent on the usage level. So if you were to get another 600w it would last 1-3 years. Some on here would say the 600w was way underpowered for the Titan anyway. My favorite brands...

Is AMD Athlon II the same as normal Athlon [I]?

Athlon II is a revamp of the Athlon 64 architecture of socket 939 and older. Since 940/AM2, all Athlons are Athlon II's. My guess is a typo somewhere. It will work as long as the socket is correct. May have to update the Bios though. Edit: There was an "Athlon" before Athlon II, but Athlon II...

    PC Crash (while under stress)

Power supply? I'm guessing that's your culprit. Classic symptom.

    R9 270X OC 4GB 24fps in Tomb Raider

I think his issue is that most TVs are 30hz, 45hz, or 59hz. Unless he has a high end TV that's running 120hz, but those are rarely purchased because of their price. Vsync essentially caps FPS at the display's refresh rate to keep the screen from tearing(looks like horizontal lines if you move...

Desktop/Gaming PC build trying to balance cost/performance. Feedback Please!

I have a Hyper 212 Evo installed in an NZXT Source 210 and it fits but just barely, the clearance in the case is so small that two screws of the 120mm exhaust fan are covered by the back of the side panel. There's some good air coolers that are cheaper and may perform just as well as the...

How do I install my GPU?

They should be in a dark bag that came in the box, and will plug into the back of the power supply. Most people that I know that build computers, including myself, usually connect the PCI-E cables by default. Most Corsair PSUs are color coded, some plugs use the black connectors from the back...

How do I install my GPU?

Usually GPUs come with adapters that you can use to get the card working temporally, but isn't recommended for prolonged use. My card is an R9 270X and takes two 6 pin PCI-E, but comes with two adapters that convert two 4 pin molex cables into one 6 pin PCI-E. I would recommend getting a PSU...
