    BSOD on Automatic Windows Update

After waiting for hours for the big-update that was previously not able to download... I had another agonizing bsod sequence. So I'm reinstalling Windows after I do some careful backing up. I marked the right answer above, which is basically: reinstall. I hate it when that's the answer. Thanks...

    BSOD on Automatic Windows Update

Yikes. Well yeah, that's an answer, but I consider that to be the nuclear option. This is a relatively new PC and I have not been negligent about updates excepting when this problem first materialized. Nuking Windows is the last resort. I have no interest in that if it can be avoided. If it...

    BSOD on Automatic Windows Update

It looks like I did the first part already. I've got a really thorough breakdown here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/bsod-on-automatic-windows-update/f9806f1f-dc9a-4706-b9c4-65a85436cbdc?tm=1520993845009 Thanks for the recommendation, Colif! I will look...

    BSOD on Automatic Windows Update

The Problem A few months ago, my (Dell Pre-built) Win 10 PC was prompted to automatically install a Windows update. At this time, I had updates set to manually install. However, after that update, my PC began to update, got to about 25% and then segued straight into one of those newfangled Win...

PC + Additional RAM ≠ Happiness (BSOD / Rage)

I am stable with the two 4GB sticks (although my Windows Score went *down* for some reason unrelated to the RAM subscore). I'm going to give this a little longer to make sure; I declared victory much too early the last time. :) Thank you very much.

PC + Additional RAM ≠ Happiness (BSOD / Rage)

Good question! I did. With just the original 4GB pair, it still BSOD'd. I haven't tried it with *this* set yet, but will. Thank you.

PC + Additional RAM ≠ Happiness (BSOD / Rage)

Thanks. Both sets are a matching pair. I'm unconvinced (at this stage) that the RAM is bad. I find it hard to buy receiving two sets of RAM - in a row - both having exactly the same issue appear. Possible, but unlikely. But I'll be running MemTest, because I have few options.

PC + Additional RAM ≠ Happiness (BSOD / Rage)

That's all the math I know. Anyway, there are many threads that all orbit this problem. I know because Google keeps sending me to them. Note to website staff: SEO appears to be working frickin' well. There are long-dead threads which I could resuscitate. Perhaps this one? Or this one? Then...

    Liquid-Cooled Stock Athlon II X4 630: Let's Overclock!

I am actually content to leave this alone, especially with any kind of risk. I would much rather have stability than endlessly tweak [and possibly destroy] my CPU. :) Excellent. Thanks so much for the added perspective.

    Liquid-Cooled Stock Athlon II X4 630: Let's Overclock!

Any thoughts? I did a little research, but damn if I can't work up the courage to use the AMD overclocking tool. It intimidates me. :)

    Liquid-Cooled Stock Athlon II X4 630: Let's Overclock!

There's a catch. I am not so technical. So, there's this long thread that I've been active in over the last few days. By the end, I determined that my videocard was driving the my system heat quite high. Along the way, though, I picked up a Corsair H80i liquid cooling system. Now I have a...

Sudden Shutdown : My half-informed diagnosis for your edification/amusement

Windows is clean of gunk. I now have a liquid cooling apparatus (Corsair H80i). I have confirmed the problem. My CPU was running a little hot, but not enough to explain the stupid amount of heat I was reading. Once I installed the H80i stuff, I had a PC that was running very smooth and very...

Sudden Shutdown : My half-informed diagnosis for your edification/amusement

Hi all. Update! I left my PC in Safe Mode, overnight, and ESET found a bunch of stuff. So did Spybot. So did Malbytes. In fact, Malbytes found a piece of spyware that appears to have had at least three hundred file components. I'm not exaggerating. That's actually a conservative ballpark-figure...

Sudden Shutdown : My half-informed diagnosis for your edification/amusement

Thanks, I'm running ESET and will run an updated Spybot in the morning (it's late in my PST time zone). I've *never* had my PC this choked with spyware crap. I 'm actually embarassed. Me thinks I need to converse with my wife and son... :)

Sudden Shutdown : My half-informed diagnosis for your edification/amusement

My friends and I think that Temp 3 is garbage. I also uncovered a screengrab from ~1 years ago. I had the same Temp 3 weirdness. Could it be something real that is only now causing problems? I swapped out my videocard for my old videocard. The PC started cooler, but still warmed. At the...
