World Backup Day: A reminder to protect against data loss

My OS NVMe is imaged once every week late Sunday night, all my important files on my main PC are backed up every morning at 6:00 AM to my backup server at home, my file server (if applicable), and my backup server sends those file updates to the cloud backup. I also have longer-term stuff backed...

Question How to actually get 1gig download speed ?

275/300 what, and measured by how, where? Specifics are extremely important.

Discussion My 7950x3d has became a cat!

The naughtiness will come in time. I almost always have a cat on the exhaust of my PC, which affects my cooling solution's efficiency. One of the reasons I don't do custom loops on my own PCs is because two of my black cats will tend to fight each other on top of my computer, so I'm concerned...

Discussion My 7950x3d has became a cat!

I'm a sucker for cats (I own four and have had as many as five at times over the last 30 years), so I really enjoyed the story. Thanks for helping out a furball in need!

News UserBenchmark bashes AMD GPUs and claims they lack real-world performance

I'm confident that if AMD had any inclination to sue Userbenchmark's parent entity, house counsel would have swiftly disabused them of that notion given there's a very high burden of proof required to bring an action under the Lanham Act. Userbenchmark just being some combination of...

Question My 650w PSU only has a 6-pin for GPU ?

That's an *old* model, designed for PCs from 20 years ago (you can tell from the group-regulation and the rail configuration). That's cheap office PSU territory if they're actually still making these. I would only use an adapter to power a 1080 Ti if I were unconcerned about the GPU dying or a...

News Leaker claims Ryzen 9 9950X3D embargo lifts on March 11

C'mon guys, let's at least let the poor thread get a page or two before it ends up an Nvidia vs. AMD flame war!

How many electronics is too many for a single outlet?

Honestly, it's not really THAT much wattage. A single space heater likely is more wattage than all of these.

Question AIO Cooler empty of coolant? How?

It could have leaked gradually at some point or simply permeation.

Question Free Space on a 120GB SSD has dropped to less than 4GB ?

Oh, it'll work, but you'll still carry over all the little fragments and bits that are making a mess. It's like vacuuming your car before selling it, and then emptying the vacuum back into your new car!

Question Free Space on a 120GB SSD has dropped to less than 4GB ?

Is this OS install from 2013? If so, I'd skip the clone completely and just do a full fresh install. After 11 years of Windows 7, you probably have enough junk in there to make a clone operation not worth it.

Question I accidentally dropped my Seagate Expansion 14TB External HDD (STKP14000402) ?

It's understandable to be curious given your background, but you'd run into a problem that you don't normally have: replacement parts are unavailable. Imagine if you could only fix planes by cannibalizing working planes! Can you post an image of the hard drive? They're sometimes clever how they...

Question I have an H310M H 2.0 motherboard but its not Gigabyte ?

Even if you'd be able to use a Gigabye BIOS, their last one for this motherboard model was more than three years ago. Shouldn't need a BIOS update; this was a pretty old motherboard.

Question PC goes to power saving mode (AMD RX 570)

Well, that's absolutely frightening. It's a junk group-regulated power supply that should never be used with any GPU that requires supplementary power.

Question Question regarding payment after the death of win 10

Antivirus programs prevent actual virus or malware, but Windows security updates patch underlying vulnerabilities of the operating system. Going to the doctor regularly isn't a substitute for not washing your hands after you go to the bathroom; you want to do both.
