My friend has an i5 750 and it is paired with 4 gb of ram, is there a chance he could upgrade to 8gb? If so what type and speed would be needed? does it have to be the same as the first stick of ram? Motherboard might even affect it too right?

Im planning on upgrading my brothers old pc so he can play very easy games.. He has a pentium e5400 I was wondering what type of ram would he need ddr2? Ddr3? Its a socket 775 board. And for the graphics card it doesnt matter too much right?
