My family and I have used up all 3 of out ethernet ports. I see on my router that there is an open usb 3.0 port. Can I use an ethernet adapter to connect it to internet? So I basically want to know if I can plug in the usb side of the adapter into the router, and then use my ethernet cable to connect my 4th device.

Short answer would be sorry, but no. Typical usage for a usb 3.0 port on a router would be to access media such as a removable hard drive. An option could be purchase an additional wireless router for more wired ports and potentially better wireless coverage if needed.

I suspect not. The router would need a driver for a usb-ethernet adapter and you can't just load them like on a pc. I would use a small switch and hook it one of the lan ports and then you have more ports to hook up end devices. It may actually be cheaper than some usb/ethernet adapter.

Agree with bill - all you need is a switch like this - https://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-Gigabit-Ethernet-Desktop-TL-SG105/dp/B00A128S24/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1474223609&sr=8-12&keywords=gigabit+switch+tp-link. Voila - more ethernet ports!

So all I need to do is connect the switch with one of my existing ethernet cables.. Then I can connect any other devices?
