I think what you want to do is called cloning better than backuping. the only problem is compression or not. Not sure how big your whole disk is. I suggest you try to use some 3rd backup/clone tool to do this, eg. aomei backupper, ghost to clone/backup the whole hard disk

if your important files are not very big, copy them to a usb. if it were big, try backup tool that supports file backup, for exanple: aomei backupper, arscons

backup files is ok,then reinstall os

how did you backup before? i'm not clear
