If you want full support for broadwell, SATA-E and M.2, feel free to buy a Z97 board. However, the 4690k is a haswell refresh CPU, and Z87 does not support these chips without a BIOS update. Some boards will not boot with the new CPU, others you can boot in, so the Z97 would be a safer option...
