Did a fresh reinstall of Windows (now Windows 10 I'm just more familiar) and installed the second most recent Radeon drivers. I'm afraid it hasn't fixed it. This time though I got a blue screen of dpc_watchdog_violation (133) with the dump showing the image name as ntkrnlmp.exe ... never seen...
