I successfully migrated my W10 to a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD. Afterwards I thought to create a recovery USB drive for this installation. The command fails, however, complaining it can't create the drive because of missing System Files. I have the old HDD around with its recovery partition...

You'd need a lot of luck... Both my USB to SATA adaptors fail, even the one with a separate power supply. And, my powered hub made no difference, probably because I compared it to using the adapters via my computer's USB connector, which is powered. Or, am I misreading you, somehow??

I've found many powered USB to SATA adapters, but none specify the current supply capability in the sales materials. I'm in Sweden, if that matters. The higher the current capcity the better, and of course USB3 is preferred, but >1.5A on 5V (to drive a Samsung EVO 250GB SSD) is the important bit.

My adapter is VERY old, and simply doesn't deliver over 0.9 A over its SATA connector. Even USB 3 doesn't deliver over 1.0 A on a single connector, I actually think, so the only alternative would be a special adapter designed with a power supply and intended for 1.4A and more on the Sata power...

So, if I'm right I should 1. install Data Migration and Magician. 2. Connect the ssd via a USB to SATA adapter, even if the adapter appears to starve the SSD for current. 3. Run Data migration and trust the results presented. 4. Stop the computer as correctly as I can 5. Disconnect the SSD, Open...

Thanks for reassuring me. I am replacing my system disk, yes. Will the Samsung data migration sw be able to prepare the disk on my external USB SATA adapter, given that the adapter can only supply one amp (or less) to the SSD?? Judging from the Cartoon Instruction manual for deploying the SSD...

I cannot find out if the ASUS EB1037 will supply enough current, 1.4A@5V, to the SAMSUNG EVO 250GB SSD. Anyone know, or know how to find out?
