Question Newb question about SSD reliability ?

I was thinking of something like this.

Question Newb question about SSD reliability ?

Ah, yes. I meant enclosures for m.2 PCIe sticks.

Question Newb question about SSD reliability ?

I've noticed very compact sleds for SATA SSDs. Is there typically room for a heatsink in those? Am I likely to need one?

Question Newb question about SSD reliability ?

On the other hand, if I’m backing up from an internal SSD to an external HDD, I’m not solving my backup speed problem. Since I backup 2.6TB every night, switching to an external SSD would solve the speed problem, but I’d blow through the external SSD’s TBW pretty quickly (< five years)...

Question Newb question about SSD reliability ?

Aren't you supposed to do a new initial periodically, so you don't end up with hundreds of incrementals? If so, how often?

Question Newb question about SSD reliability ?

I'm on Macrium Reflect, too. I tested incremental a number of years ago (might not have been on Macrium), and it was fine if I ever wanted to restore my entire system. There have been times, however, when I've wanted to restore a single file, and I found it difficult to locate a particular...

Question Newb question about SSD reliability ?

Thanks for the detailed reply. The RAID isn't really for backup but for convenience in the event of a disk dying. I still do a full system backup every night to an external HDD. In fact, that's one of the things compelling the new system. It takes about seven hours to backup 2.6 TB via my...

Question Newb question about SSD reliability ?

I'm spec'ing a new Windows PC to replace my current eight-year old one. The current one has a 1TB SSD (75% full) for software and a 4TB two-HDD RAID 1 (44% full) for files. The vendor for the new system recommends a 2TB SSD for software and an 8TB SSD for files. Both SSDs are NVMe PCIe Gen4...

Question Is there a device that allows copying one SATA drive to two others without using a PC?

Thanks for the reply. I'll be backing up about 2TB/drive/day. Didn't think of a hub, so that would handle the two drives simultaneously (my laptop only has two USB 3.0 ports). Think I'll still look into a cloning station, out of curiosity.

Question Is there a device that allows copying one SATA drive to two others without using a PC?

Just as it says in the title. I'm gearing up to shoot a lot of video for the first time and I'd like to use one SSD (drive 1) to record straight from the camera, one (drive 2) to copy drive 1 to at the end of the day, and one (drive 3) to backup drive 2. Of course, I could copy drive 1 to...

Question Source for custom expansion card backplates?

I’m using the PC normally. I just want a remote box with five USB ports, power and reset switches, power and HDD LEDs, and headphone and mic jacks (12 additional wires). Your suggestion to repurpose USB wires is a good one, though it would be nice if I could pull this off with a max of two...

Question Source for custom expansion card backplates?

I need to pass some USB cables and other wires from outside a tower-case to the inside, and the most elegant way would be through a custom expansion card backplate. Does anyone here know of a source for these (I just need one)? I haven't been able to find any, but my Google-fu is weak. Thanks...

[SOLVED] Is there such a thing as a remote head for a chassis?

The problem with that approach is that, on rare occasions, it's better to connect a USB device "directly" to the motherboard via a motherboard-connected port than through a hub. How are the USB ports on the front of a PC tower connected to the motherboard, and how far can they be extended? I...

[SOLVED] Is there such a thing as a remote head for a chassis?

The advent of Win11 has prompted me to start thinking about my next PC since my current one won't be able to run it. This, in turn, started me thinking if I could buy or build a PC with this feature I've occasionally thought about. Something more along those lines, but for the power button...
