SSDs are not supposed to be that full. It needs to have atleast 20% free space on them at all times.Have you checked the Boot priority?

If before you had 4GB and 100% usage, then in 8GB 50% is means that the system only needs 4GB at the moment. You can try lowering Virtual RAM/Memory/Cache.
