You could try running a live linux disk and see if it will boot and run off of it. If it is a hardware issue it would have problems on the live linux disk too.

Have you tried simply pressing the power button as if you were going to turn the computer on. It sounds like the computer is going to sleep rather than turning the monitor off. Normally when the computer is asleep the power light will slowly blink rather than remain solid on.

If you are wanting to clear the old files only u could boot a live linux disk and wipe the drive.

Manufacturer waranties dont cover software problems. Did u recently install something new?

Sounds like it could be an IP address conflict issue. Have u tried resetting you router and reconfiguring it?

Does it show up in device manager as ready to use. U might have to install the drivers manually for it.
