Did you make a set of recovery disk before deleting the partition? if not you will need to purchase a set from Dell. I can't figure why peaple delete these partitions, as the space gained is not worth the hassle later. You would be lucky to fit one HD movie in that amount of space.

The thumb drive won't leave anything on your computer unless you copy it there. Or maybe it has a virus on it that's causing a problem. Simply plugging a thumb drive in does nothing, accept give you access to the data it contains. You didn't happen to click on a setup file did you?
