Question Comparison question on RTX graphics cards

Agreed, I had a 3070 and it was a beast for it's generation and price point. Could you not consider trading in both and investing in a better card though? Especially with the 5000 series releasing this month and at much more reasonable prices than was anticipated.

Question X870 Riptide: Do I need the thermal pad on M.2?

The mobo came with pads for the back plate AND the boards heatsink covers for the SSD drive on both the primary and dual secondary M.2 slots. It's impressive cooling but the pads are really chunky. I can't see how most drives would be comfortably sandwiched between those things. It seems that...

Question X870 Riptide: Do I need the thermal pad on M.2?

Now that I think about it, I don't recall if there was a back plate behind the mobo for the SSD. You'd think I'd have checked that huh?

Question Unsure about CPU upgrade path AMD/Intel

So, I ultimately went with AMD on this one. I placed a pre-order a while back, knowing stock was limited and waited for the patches Intel promised for the 200 series. I can't say I was much impressed with what they put out, so when I got notice that my pre-order was being packaged and dispatched...

Question X870 Riptide: Do I need the thermal pad on M.2?

I have gone with this for the time being. Keeping an eye on the temps. I will probably get some more pads after the holiday period. For now, everything seems to be okay. The pads will give me some peace of mind later though. The mobo has a metal back plate, so it would draw the heat away from...

Question X870 Riptide: Do I need the thermal pad on M.2?

I did indeed remove the protective film. The SSD in question is: Crucial T700 2TB. Seems I might have to get thinner some thermal padding in that case. There is no way I'm getting this SSD secured otherwise.

Question X870 Riptide: Do I need the thermal pad on M.2?

Apologies if I wasn't clear. I have already removed the heatsink that came with the board (I'm sticking with the heatsink on the SSD) But the board came with thermal pads between the mobo and the SSD. It's this thermal pad that is preventing me from securing the SSD with the "latch". I'm...

Question X870 Riptide: Do I need the thermal pad on M.2?

I recently invested in an ASRock X870 Riptide. I'm in the middle of my build and whilst installing the SSD, to the primary m.2 slot, if I leave the thermal pad that came with the board in place, I just can't get the SSD "latch" in place, the thermal pad is too large and the SSD will not go down...

Question Unsure about CPU upgrade path AMD/Intel

Yeah, Paradox game engine was never designed with multi-core or hyperthreading in mind. They've made some efforts on this front but. Meh. It's Paradox. The point I make is that I've known other people with CPU's with fewer cores and no hyperthreading, to get better performance because individual...

Question Unsure about CPU upgrade path AMD/Intel

I did debate asking this question in the relevant subforum but in the interests of avoiding clutter. If mods/admins want me to make this question it's own thread in the relevant sub forum, let me know. I have been checking out some Mobo/memory combos, assuming I'm going to go with AM5 for this...

Question Unsure about CPU upgrade path AMD/Intel

No restriction in terms of budget. As I am learning! I've not felt this out of my depth in quite a while. I'm going to do plenty of research before making the switch. Current supply and incoming hardware developments mean that not only do I not need to rush, it might be beneficial to take my...

Question Unsure about CPU upgrade path AMD/Intel

Primarily, CPU intensive strategy titles, particularly those from Paradox, including but not limited to Stellaris, Crusader Kings 3 et al. It doesn't help that these games don't utilise multiple cores, or when they do, they do so inefficiently. The games perform well initially but my CPU seems...

Question Unsure about CPU upgrade path AMD/Intel

I marked your response as the answer, because I'm pretty much convinced to switch to AMD at this stage. I don't see any advantage to sticking with Intel. In my further digging, I learned that AMD boards have the same chipset classifications as Intel, so Z & X series being overclockable, should...

Question Unsure about CPU upgrade path AMD/Intel

Thanks for the welcome! I'm defintely leaning towards AMD at this stage. I don't think that Intel are reliable these days. I'd like to aim for the 9800X3D, but I'll take a look at the 7800X3D and compare. I noticed that mobo's for AMD came with the B and X classifications. Not being an AMD...
