The GTX 970 is a much better bang for the buck. More than enough for 1080p, and if you're going to put another one in for SLI, it can definitely handle 1440p. In 3 years, you'd be able to buy another GTX 970 or upgrade the card completely.

I read an article where it says that you should use the pea method for a circle base cooler so that the thermal paste spreads into the shape of the base. And use X method (or spread, although I know it's not good) for square coolers. Is this true or does it not matter?
