I figured out what was wrong. I wasn't having a driver issue. The UEFI for my motherboard was old, and needed updated for the 5700xt drivers to work properly. Working great now that I fixed that.

The MAX version is a stopgap MSI put out the Max versions of a few popular boards because they needed something that would work right away with ryzen 3000. It just has a larger bios chip, and comes with the newer bios that R 3000 needs. I guess the smaller chip was having some performance issues.

Yes, the Max series is compatible out of the box with ryzen 3000, as well as supporting 2000. There is just a larger bios chip than the non Max version of those boards.

However, most msi boards do have the ability to be flashed from a USB stick, without a cpu installed, so that shouldn't be an issue if you can get the bios on a USB stick.

Well, either way the second part of my reply still stands. You will have to update your drivers and most likely have to reactivate windows.

For if you don't have a board that natively supports the new 3000 series AMD cpus without a bios update, and don't have an older AMD chip to put in your board to get the required bios update. Edit : and now I feel stupid. Somehow missed the generation number. Thought it read 3700, not 2700.
