Question How to detect fake or poor quality flash drives? (H2testw alternatives)

No unfortunately I did not try to fill them to see if I can get close to the stated capacity, I only tested with software (which took several hours to complete). I don't know if copying the files would make a difference since that's what the testing software is supposed to do but maybe you're...

Question How to detect fake or poor quality flash drives? (H2testw alternatives)

Apparently the store or brand name is "vansuny", I don't know why but the description changes to "vansung" when I'm logged in to Amazon. I think you will find them (Amazon US and DE) if you search for the brand "vansuny".

Question How to detect fake or poor quality flash drives? (H2testw alternatives)

Yes you're right, I only bought these fake drives for testing. For my "real" flash drives I use Samsung duo plus or Sandisk Extreme pro's. I think the brand Vansung doesn't exist on Amazon (us), I bought them on Amazon (DE): "Vansung High Speed USB 3.0 Flash Drive 32/64/128/256GB"

Question How to detect fake or poor quality flash drives? (H2testw alternatives)

Yes of course the brand name is suspicious, many sellers on Amazon sell the same cheap products under a different name so I'm sure this product has different names/brands too. Don't worry I have other flash drives from known brands and they work very well. I bought the cheap/fake drives for...

Question How to detect fake or poor quality flash drives? (H2testw alternatives)

Hello A few weeks ago I bought some cheap "Vansung" or "Vansuny" flash drives on Amazon. I tested them with some specific tools (H2testw, FakeFlashTest, ChipGenius,... ) but I couldn't detect any problem. I was expecting the flash drives to be very slow and only have a small percentage of the...

Question What is the best choice for bootable USB drive (MBR/GPT - NTFS/FAT32) ?

Hi The "black screen" problem is solved after a hard reset of the BIOS (had to remove the battery and do a power drain). What caused the black screen was changing the "video" setting to legacy instead of the default uefi (this setting is found under "Advanced", "CSM support"). I don't know why...

Question What is the best choice for bootable USB drive (MBR/GPT - NTFS/FAT32) ?

Yes I agree 100%, for Windows systems I also would pick NTFS first and FAT32 only for older systems. Most of my flash drives are for installation of different versions of W10 + some extra flash drives with tools for backups (acronis), recovery of passwords, cloning (macrium reflect) ,... I did...

Question What is the best choice for bootable USB drive (MBR/GPT - NTFS/FAT32) ?

Hello I'm creating some new "rescue" bootable flash drives (with Linux, Acronis,...) via Rufus and I'm trying to make the flash drives compatible with as many systems as possible. In most cases I will use them for Windows systems but I know some (very) old systems or OS'es (before Vista) do not...

Orangeck USB charger says it has overcurrent protection but is still overheating/melting

Yes there definitely is a big difference between the chargers I use. Most of the time my "USB load tester" doesn't work or doesn't trigger any charging when it's connected to more expensive chargers, maybe it's some kind of safety or negotiation protocol that the cheaper chargers don't have.

Orangeck USB charger says it has overcurrent protection but is still overheating/melting

Hi Since I fried one of my laptops USB-c ports I'm trying to be more careful when buying new chargers and new usb-c cables. I only use the "usb-if certified" cables and I try to buy chargers from known brands. Unfortunately the USB charger I like the most (because it has a built in display) is...
