    Question Networking Two Linux Computers

No IP address connection at all. Not really concerned about that at this point because one computer was on Linux and the other on Windows. My long term vision is to have both computers on Linux. My concern now is about networking these two computers after they both have Linux installed on them...

    Question Networking Two Linux Computers

I have an older desktop and laptop with both running Windows 10. With Windows 10 losing support later this year, I have been thinking about switching both of these computers to Linux. I have experimented a bit with Linux on my laptop a while back. It seems to meet my needs, but one difficulty I...

Question Going Back to Gigabyte Graphics

My monitor is a TCL 55 inch Roku TV. The only aspect ratio adjustment I have is to put it on Auto. There are no aspect ratio adjustments in the bios either. This is quite a minor inconvenience, though, because I still have full access to all bios functions when I intentionally enter the bios...

Question Going Back to Gigabyte Graphics

Thank you for the helpful reply. I went ahead and uninstalled the Intel Graphics Command Center software. Device Manager now shows "Generic Software Component" in its place. My system graphics seem to be working just as well as before I uninstalled the Intel stuff, so I am pleased with that...

Question Going Back to Gigabyte Graphics

The system I built in 2017 includes a Gigabyte GA-H270N-WIFI motherboard and an Intel i3-7100 CPU. I do not have a dedicated graphics card. The CPU has integrated graphics. When I initially got this system up and running, I chose to have Intel graphics software control the graphics duties. I...

    Discussion Should I try Linux?

Isaac, Linux Mint comes with Libre Office automatically. It has a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation program, etc, just like Microsoft Office. It functions very much the same too. No new training required to learn how to use it. In fact, you can download a free Windows version of Libre...

[SOLVED] Recommended Used Laptop for Linux

I think the best (and free) way to save an image of your Windows disc before pushing forward with Linux is to download the free edition of Macrium Reflect 8. You can get it at this link: Macrium Reflect 8 Free Edition When you get to that site, page down until you see the link to download...

[SOLVED] Recommended Used Laptop for Linux

I think any laptop that is running Windows would work just fine. The hardware requirements for Linux are minimal. If it ran Windows, it will run Linux. Find a Windows laptop with the features that you like at a good price and go for it. I recently tried out Linux Mint on my Intel 7th gen laptop...

[SOLVED] PCIe Version vs. Operating System

Since I was somewhat disappointed that I can't upgrade my Desktop Intel 7th gen CPU to Windows 11, I thought I would go with Linux Mint 20.2. I tried Mint recently on my laptop and found that it met my needs and I was able to adapt to it quite easily. I can't find any detailed specs on Linux...

[SOLVED] PCIe Version vs. Operating System

I was thinking about building a new system, and one of the questions that came to mind, is that if I want to have PCIe 4.0, is it necessary for the operating system to be capable of running PCIe 4.0, or doesn't that have anything to do with the operating system?

[SOLVED] Upgrade wifi card in Laptop

A novel idea providing one has room for it as you mentioned. For virtually the same cost as upgrading to AC wireless, you can have AX.

[SOLVED] Upgrade wifi card in Laptop

The Intel AC 7260 is a good card. It will work well for you. This is a 2x2 card, like virtually all of them, so 300 and 867 Mbps is all you're going to get (which is pretty good anyway). Go for it.

[SOLVED] Upgrade wifi card in Laptop

You are correct, but may find it difficult to find a PCIe Half MiniCard because they haven't been produced for a few years now. Your best bet will probably be to determine which PCIe Half MiniCard you want, then look on eBay for a used one.

[SOLVED] Powerline adapter working for ethernet but not Wifi

Hmmmm. Don't know how you reach that conclusion. To me it indicates that there is some kind of conflict in the wifi between the main router and the TP Link extender. I think your best bet is to study the wifi setup in the TP Link manual in detail.
