News Grab an HP Budget Desktop Gaming PC for Under $700: Real Deals

I haven't bought a prebuilt PC in decades, but pricing, supply issues and lack of free time has me seriously considering it. This SOUNDED like a good deal, but they lost me at a 500W PSU, two 3.5" drive bays and no slot to even install an optical drive. I'd have to yank it apart and move it to a...

News Ryzen 5 5600 and 5500 Review: Firing Back at Alder Lake

Again, manufacturing costs are then pretty much identical. If there is more market demand for the lower end chips, you disable more higher end ones and sell them in the low end, making overclock extremely effective. We've seen it before. Yeah, yeah, I'm daydreaming, but it doesn't mean I'm wrong.

News Ryzen 5 5600 and 5500 Review: Firing Back at Alder Lake

AMD is kind of known for intentionally leaving things like that on the table for techies to go bananas for. Probably have to do something to compensate for being PCIe 3 instead of four though. They might have simply disabled the graphics because it would provide a bottleneck. How do you sell a...

News Ryzen 5 5600 and 5500 Review: Firing Back at Alder Lake

I can't be the only one wondering if the Ryzen 5 5500's Ryzen Vega Graphics can be unlocked again. Even if you had to lower the clock on it, it would be a serious deal.

Question Files going to 0 byte size ?

Nope, but did manually run it and nothing turned up. Currently re-running it with /r. Edit: I should mention that I have no problems deleting these 0 byte files. I know that can be a thing if the tables are corrupt. Edit 2: I don't have a clue.

Question Files going to 0 byte size ?

I had split my files between two drives. I used standard windows copy at the time. (The Toshiba wasn't zeroing files, it showed it was failing in CrystalDisk and windows even had a pop up warning me that the drive was about to die.) Once I had the new WD drive I used Acronis from WD to copy...

Question Files going to 0 byte size ?

Recently added a new WD Black 8TB to replace a failing Toshiba drive. I'm starting to see files suddenly become 0 byes in size. At first I thought it was files that I moved to the drive that I backed up from the Toshiba, but these are files added since then. CrystalDiskInfo doesn't show...

[SOLVED] New drive, SMART changes within two days.

New WD Black 8 TB. Did a low level format, some quick testing and copied several TB of data to it. SMART numbers have shifted since initial installation. Should I be concerned? At Install: And now:

    [SOLVED] Crash while formatting.

That's what I suspected. I couldn't imagine that it doesn't perform some final task at the end that flags it as active, without which it would still appear unformatted. Edit: Is there a better way to test the drive? Is Seatools/Data Lifeguard testing meaningful for a new drive?

    [SOLVED] Crash while formatting.

Received a new HDD yesterday. Performed a non-quick format on it. When I went to bed it was nearly finished, but when I woke up this morning my PC had crashed (I'm not blaming the drive here my PC is a work in progress). Windows shows the drive online and formatted. I'm aware there's probably...

[SOLVED] Western Digital: Black or Ultrastar?

Saw discussion of 3.3v problem and that none of the sellers are actually Amazon. Forget it. Too many questions involved with using a server drive in a home PC. Edit 2: Is there really anything worth buying besides a WD Black anymore? I'm probably going with 8TB again and it's strictly media...

[SOLVED] Seek Error Rate Warning - - - Is it time to RMA my Toshiba HDD ? .

Yeah, I'm sick of waiting for drives to fail. I'm considering getting a NAS when I order my new HDD. Now I'm trying to figure what to replace the Toshiba with. I didn't expect it wouldn't be an exchange. The same drive is up $50-60. There is a HDWR480XZSTA. I would have assumed it was a...

[SOLVED] Western Digital: Black or Ultrastar?

I'm looking to replace my Toshiba 8TB large storage drive. It contains media & backup files, no programs. I see that WD's Ultrastar is better priced than the Black. I have to assume it's built for better longevity, possibly lower performance even though it's still 7200RPM. I know it's WD now...

[SOLVED] Seek Error Rate Warning - - - Is it time to RMA my Toshiba HDD ? .

I'm running a Toshiba 8TB X300 HDD (HDWR180XZSTA) that is 11 months old (with a 2 year warranty). Yesterday I received a warning under Windows of a SMART warning for the "Seek Error Rate" and that 'Drive Failure is Imminent' with an offer to back up my drive NOW. CrystalDiskInfo confirmed the...

[SOLVED] Need a spinning platter HDD recommendation.

So far the temp peaked at 53 but on pens it has fallen to 46. That sounds better. I couldn't tell you the last time I did a full format of a large drive, but over 9 hours now and still going.
