Does MSI Afterburner need to continually run in the background if I want to use its custom GPU fan curve profile or can I allow Afterburner run when OS starts up and end the application afterwards?

Were there issues with either laptop when you used either laptop? I visited the Asus ROG forum and there were so many complaint threads about the G752VT and VY. Personally I am about to buy the VT model, but now I am a bit reluctant.
