    Question HP Elitebook X360 1030 G2 Motherboard Issue ?

Just phoned the customer and apparently some other tech had a look at it and got the keyboard working. So strange as I was very careful with re-assembly. However, the touchpad still doesn't work and the Caps Lock light is still on. So, it is fair to say that there is a bigger issue still lurking.

    Question HP Elitebook X360 1030 G2 Motherboard Issue ?

I had a customer who wanted me to replace the keyboard for this laptop. Original symptoms were keyboard and touch pad not working. Also the Caps Lock light was always on and couldn't be turned off. I think there was the very occasional freeze of OS but it was rare. I had to replace the entire...

[SOLVED] Switched to a new case— Powers on, but no signal on monitor?

Scratches are never good. You could grab some isopropyl (100%) alcohol and clean the scratched area. Don't rub the alcohol, just dab it with a clean cotton bud etc. Rubbing can cause static so avoid that. It probably won't help but at least it cleans out debris and you can truly see the damage...

    [SOLVED] Strange 4,096 Bytes Size

4K is the default cluster size but it can be changed when you format the drive initially.

[SOLVED] Switched to a new case— Powers on, but no signal on monitor?

Feels like we need more info here. Maybe let's take it back to basics: Does you hear system POST? Sometimes, audible POST is disabled in BIOS so you won't hear it in that case. Other option is to connect a basic internal speaker to the system panel header. If you don't hear the POST, do you...

[SOLVED] Building a new Windows Server. Help please !!!

I did find this however: https://servers.asus.com/products/Servers/Server-Motherboards/P12R-E-10G-2T/ That would be compatible. It has 2 x 4th gen NVME. Thinking RAID1 (2 x NVME) for Server OS and RAID 1 (2 mechanical drives) for data. Then either 16GB or 32GB of ECC RAM

[SOLVED] Building a new Windows Server. Help please !!!

Also, I am thinking that the Asus board may not be a compatible chipset: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/212253/intel-xeon-e2336-processor-12m-cache-2-90-ghz/compatible.html Asus board uses Intel W480.

[SOLVED] Building a new Windows Server. Help please !!!

Are you sure on this? Generally server boards have dual Ethernet, less graphics connectors (VGA DVI etc) and since they seem to cost at least twice those that are marketed as Desktop boards, I assume they are also more durable for 24/7 use?

[SOLVED] Building a new Windows Server. Help please !!!

Well, I think the main distinction with server hardware (mobo + CPU combo) is ECC memory. I assume also hardware designed for 24/7 use. For a 6 user medical surgery. Will be installing Windows Server Standard 2022 probably with 2 instances. So Hyper V with host as the Domain Controller and the...

[SOLVED] Building a new Windows Server. Help please !!!

Guys, I am building a server but thought I would ask here as hardware questions are pretty scarce over at the server forums. Looking at using either a Xeon E-2336 (6 core) or the more expensive Xeon E-2378G (8 core) CPU. Problem is I just can't find server boards that go with them. My...

Question Help with replacing the display cable on HP Elitebook Revolve 810 G2 ?

I don't have a heat gun but I guess I could borrow a hair dryer from someone. I have one of those tiny plastic pizza cutters I use to remove iMac screens. Thinking that should work. What is the recommended way to glue the screen back in place? I have some of those doubles-sided strips for iMac...

Question Help with replacing the display cable on HP Elitebook Revolve 810 G2 ?

I didn't twist, just set the screen flat. I believe it is repairable based on photos. You can see the cable I have is a direct match. My only concern is that I will somehow need to glue/attach the screen back in place. The ebay listings I linked to prove that the assembly can be dismantled.

Question Help with replacing the display cable on HP Elitebook Revolve 810 G2 ?

Further developments. I started moving the screen around in many different positions and got the following image at a 170 degree angle: View: https://imgur.com/f8Ldc1u And then this image at around 120 degree angle: View: https://imgur.com/uOXTxGq Also had the image perfect at 90 degrees...

Question Help with replacing the display cable on HP Elitebook Revolve 810 G2 ?

Well maybe. I had considered that. I ordered the cable before I had seen the unit because it was cheap and was going to take like 6 weeks from China. While I agree that half of the screen points more to the LCD itself, the symptoms in that part of the screen are very similar to what happens with...

    Question MemTest86 errors

I still find the whole thing a bit odd. The sticks weren't really so far apart in terms of speed/timings. Correct me if I am wrong but the recommendation is to tighten CAS by an increment of 1 for every drop in frequency. I know I read that here somewhere although I think that person might...
