I would go with a 6700K when they're available as that would be the best possible "future proof" but it's really tough to future proof as the next processor will be out in a years' time anyways and tech will always be upgraded at lightning speed.

I think with that old a CPU it's worth upgrading. If you had a 2500K and above, then no, but for what you're currently rocking you'll see a good performance hike. Unfortunately the i7 6700k is near impossible to find :(

I hope you mean $8k and not $80k. Even $8k would get you the most ridiculous PC ever - like quad Titan X graphics cards, but $80k isn't even possible to spend on one computer unless you get maybe custom 24k gold components or something.

Ya it makes no sense why we don't have a release date yet. The i5 seems to be shipping from NewEgg on 8/14 but not a peep on the i7. I wanna get started on my build as well

When I upgraded my 27" 1080P monitor to 1440P I noticed a huge difference with games. If it's any smaller than 27" I probably wouldn't recommend it though.

Well I think after reading this thread, I will end up going with Skylake. DDR4 ram is finally starting to get close to DDR3 prices, the new mobos aren't priced too bad and utilizing combos on newegg puts a nice build under $1500. I will wait for a couple more weeks for the 6700k and get going.
