But the problem is that my computer originally came with 2X2 Gb ram that is 4 GB of total ram and I dont know how but one of those 2 GB modules got sucked up : I thought my ram slot was destroyed. So that's why I am asking wether I should throw off my remaining 2 GB ram and ass an 8 GB module...

but will there be a problem with detection of RAM in the system if I put an 8 GB module in one slot and leave the other one empty ?
