Windows 10 keeps resetting default apps

So far, so good. I still wonder what was causing the problem. A corrupt file somewhere? I ran sfc /scannow and it found nothing wrong.

Windows 10 keeps resetting default apps

I gave up and did a clean install of Windows 10 yesterday. Installed all of the Windows updates and so far the default app reset problem hasn't returned.

Windows 10 keeps resetting default apps

The problem continues. It appears to be unfixable. I guess it's time to give up.

Windows 10 keeps resetting default apps

I've already asked this at Microsoft.com, but haven't had much luck. The computer has Windows 10 Home, Creators Update installed. I want movie files to open in VLC, picture files in Irfanview, and PDF files in Foxit Reader. A couple days ago when the computer came on, Windows reset movie...

Can't run Powershell or cmd.exe as administrator

Thanks for trying to help. I tried changing the fonts as suggested in the links you supplied, but that didn't work. I didn't try uninstalling and reinstalling .net framework. I have been able to (sort of) fix the problem. This folder: C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WinX...

Can't run Powershell or cmd.exe as administrator

This is strange. When I do WIN + X, I can't open everything that's listed in the box. I can't open the following: Event Viewer Device Manager Disk Management Computer Management PowerShell PowerShell (Admin) Task Manager File Explorer When I click on any of the above, the box closes, but...

Can't run Powershell or cmd.exe as administrator

I don't have a Powershell icon on the taskbar, but if I do a search for it (taskbar bottom left), it'll show up as a "desktop app", if I then right click on it and select "Run as administrator", nothing happens. If I left click on it, it'll open. The same thing happens if I do a search for cmd...

Can't run Powershell or cmd.exe as administrator

In the past I've been able to run powershell and command prompt as administrator. Tried today and can't. I don't know how long I've been unable to run either as administrator, it's been a few months since I opened either of them. I can open both not as administrator, but when I try to open them...

Safely remove hardware icon always showing

When I first saw it I thought something somewhere was screwed up. Since that doesn't seem to be the case I'll just ignore it.

Safely remove hardware icon always showing

Thanks. So, I guess it's not something screwed up in Windows, or the media card reader, or Dell's BIOS or motherboard. It's strange that the HP with Windows 10 didn't have the icon showing all the time, though. Maybe the person at Dell was right about HP using a proprietary controller.

Safely remove hardware icon always showing

I recently purchased a Dell XPS 8900, Windows 10. Right out of the box, before I'd installed any drivers or programs, with just the monitor, keyboard and mouse connected, the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" icon was appearing on the right hand side of taskbar. Actually it's in with the...

Windows 10 USB recovery drive killed my computer

I created a Windows 10 recovery USB drive. I then wanted to check and see that it had been created correctly and would work if I ever needed it. My computer has a UEFI BIOS, so I had to go into the BIOS and change it to legacy so that it'd boot from the flash drive (I'd done this before with a...
