    Transfering files off a HDD

If it is just data files (documents, photos, etc...), you can just copy them across. If it is the applications, best you re-install the applications. You will likely have to re-apply application settings manually.

Does my hard drive need to be formatted?

When you go into Microsoft Windows Disk Management, can you see the HDD disk as Disk 1 (or something similar)? Was there data already on the HDD and would it hurt to initialize/format it?

    Can't clone HDD?

Glad you sorted this one out and shared your solution, I'll keep Macrium Reflect on my books. Another one I have used in the past is CloneZilla many times over without any issues.

Is 1T of Hard drive space to much?

Go the extra $10 for sure.

How can I acess my external hard drive?

The MBP disk would have be a journalled HFS file system. I'm thinking you'll need some application that can read HFS from Windows. I don't have much experience but hopefully this may explain why you just can't read the OSX drive and someone can point you along further.

    Good Backup NAS

I personally use a QNAP 8 bay and it's been really good. Synology would have been my other choice of brand during my time of research. But the important features I was looking for was easy RAID re-build and the most important reason - the ability to expand the RAID by installing larger disks. I...

Seagate Barracuda VS Western Digital Caviar Black

Nice post - I just mentioned in another post that I would pick the Caviar Black without hesitation over Seagate! I have owned alot of HDDs in the past five years (Two 1TB Seagates, Two 1TB Samsungs, Two 2TB WD Greens, Two 2TB WD Blacks, Three 2TB Samsungs, Three 2TB Seagates, Four 3TB Seagates)...

    Dead hard drive or virus?

My vote is that it is sounds like it is dieing. If it normally clicks, it could be parking the heads but if you've never noticed it before, it could be time to save what you can. If it was a virus, then putting the hard disk in another computer should have worked and you should have been able...

Have 2 3tb Seagates, are they good raid drives?

I have four Seagate 3TB drives in an 8 bay QNAP running in RAID5. It has been running for about two years 24/7 now with no issues at all so far. I had bad experiences with Seagates in the past. I've noticed that Seagates get quite hot and I lost two drives within 3 months (could have bee a bad...

    Adding HDD

That sounds okay to me. The only thing I would do is clone the original Windows 8 in case you have any driver issues with Windows 7 and have to fall back to Windows 8. Clonezilla works pretty well as the clone tool because it only clones the used space and not the entire HDD. Or leave the old...

Resentaly added a new hard drive have a question about it

As Emerald mentioned, just use Disk Manager that comes built-in with Windows. You will have to do it manually. You can access Disk Manager by Right Clicking on "My Computer/Computer" and selecting Manage. From there, you can find Disk Manager or Disk Management depending on your OS. At the...

    Hard Drive build quality question

I have the WD passport 2TB for about 5 months now. Took it through Singapore for about three weeks and had it plugged in 24/7 for the three weeks without any issues although 3 weeks is nothing really. But, I got this purely for the portability which doesn't sound like your purpose. The Buffalo...

    Adding HDD

I'd say no. I can't remember the last time i had to worry about master/slave. Most modern computers, I've done it all in the BIOS. Also in the BIOS, make sure that the new HDD is the First One and the old HDD is second in sequence order. After you've plugged in the new HDD, just double check...

    Adding HDD

Once you install the new HDD, you will have to go into BIOS and set the Boot Drive to the new hard disk. As your new HDD is a smaller size, it should be easy to pick out in the BIOS. Then you can boot up on your OS installation CD and install the OS onto the new hard disk. The old hard disk will...
