I'd unplug all internal devices such as hard drives, optical drives and all but your mouse and keyboard from your motherboard. Then try reseating your GPU, CPU and RAM you may find that one component not being installed correctly is causing this. Let me know how that goes.

You should be fine to return it without those, the manufacturers can't really expect you to hold onto those just in case you need to RMA it. I sent RAM back to Corsair without the original packaging because it got damaged and I binned it, they were fine with it and sent me new RAM back. Hope...

There are alot of free anti-virus software out there, it's just a matter of opinion really. I've never had an antivirus that I paid for, the free verions have been good enough protection. Personally I use Avira, If you decide to give Avira a go I'd recommend just installing just the antivirus...

It does sound like a GPU issue due to the changes it makes to your graphics after the error, if it was a problem with the CPU overheating the odds are it would freeze completely or just crash instantly. I would try first doing a clean install of your graphics drivers, go to the nvidia website...
