I use 3ds Max and V-Ray renderer with various plugins for scattering etc. sometime complex volumes and simulations. Scenes don't always get too high on RAM usage, but occasionally max out.

Interesting - I put that to my technician and he 'highly doubts it' Basis for only running on 64Gb is that it wouldn't work with certain DIMM slots active - I can't remember which ones. The tech says the memory controllers are on the CPU, so they could have been on their way out. I carried on...
