AMD To Issue Software Fix To Address RX 480 Power Consumption Problems

Interestingly enough, the card uses less power AND performs better when undervolted... goes about 5% faster, runs a few degrees cooler, and uses less power when the maximum voltage is dropped down to around 1.1V... it wouldn't surprise me if the "fix" was to simply make that the default.

LG 34UC98 34-inch Curved FreeSync Monitor Review

I'd urge anyone considering this to compare the Acer XR341ck, which, near as I can tell, is the same thing with different plastic bits and tuned for a better freesync range. Same price, too.

Slidenjoy: A Portable Triple Screen For Your Laptop

I was wondering when someone was going to make something like this... seems like a pretty good deal if you have the money.

Confirmed: Microsoft Office Universal Apps Launching Along With Windows 10 On July 29

Making basic versions of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint free is not a bad idea; it won't cost Microsoft much money. Traditionally, Microsoft has made their money from people (particularly enterprises) buying the full office-suite, not just the basics people use for school and the like. Considering...

WPC-Commissioned Study Finds Qi Wireless Charging More Efficient Than Rezence

In other news, the sky is blue, the Pope is Catholic, and steel beams can't melt jet fuel. But seriously, longer range is going to be less efficient. Particularly with wireless, what with having to cover an area rather than just add length to a cable.

DX12 More CPU cores and threads = more FPS?

The Problem with Direct X < 12, Open GL, etc. is that they are an API that is abstracted from the hardware, and handled not by the game, but by a separate program (the driver). Basically, the game would call a bunch of things, wait for the driver to get run, then the driver would pass that...

    AMD Radeon R9 Fury X 4GB Review

The problem with the Fury X is AMD doesn't win on, well, anything. Same price, same performance, same power, etc. as the 980ti. It's more or less just a different flavor of the same thing: choose which company you like. History shows that, for most people, that company is Nvidia. Meanwhile, with...

AMD Introduces Radeon R9 Fury Series Graphics Cards With Fiji GPUs

Probably not. Cards actually run at a little over 1V, and use VRM's to step down the voltage from your 12 watt power supply. In a card like the R9 290X (like I have) under load, it will have about 270A feeding the GPU (but the VRM's will get super hot, and those will die under heat just like the...

Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Review

When the 980 was announced, I knew Nvidia was holding something exactly like this close to their chest, just to rain on AMD's parade when they tried to announce a competitor chip. Now imagine what will happen with the next die shrink... 4k will be easy, soon. ...this is assuming Nvidia and...

FSP's New NB H Series Combines USB 3.0 Hub With Power Adapter

No reason why, when Type-C is the norm, your power adapter isn't just a normal hub, with nothing particularly special about it except being plugged into a wall.

Stop, Thief! Why Using an Ad Blocker Is Stealing

Blocking food from children? Drama queen, much? Ultimately, the web is the wild west of advertising. In TV ads, these ads cannot steal your information, mine your data, run malicious scripts, etc. Incidentally, there are also ways to skip these, and that has hardly killed Television...

G.Skill Does It Again, Claims Fastest DDR4 Memory At 3666 MHz

This is actually decent latency at this speed. Equivalent timings on DDR3 1600 RAM would be 7.8-7.8-7.8-16.6, and I see a lot of kits on newegg with 9-9-9-24 timings at 1600. Sure, 7-8-7-24 exists, and edges out this 3666 RAM in latency in a could of important categories, but with more than...

Kingston Claims Fastest 128 GB DDR4 Memory Kit

So... where the confusion probably comes from here is that Samsung announced that they had made a 128Gb (note the lowercase 'b') RAM chip. Notably, 128Gb is 16GB. Also note, in these chips, we're talking in the vicinity of ~140 billion (minimum would be 128 billion, but these memory chips do...

Kingston Claims Fastest 128 GB DDR4 Memory Kit

I seriously doubt it. Not only does this kit move more than twice as much data per DIMM, it's quad-channel capable... I suppose you could do the same with yours if it's four Separate DIMMs, but the motherboard you're using is incredibly unlikely to support more than dual channel. Also, the...
