I checked the cables and they all are fine. I tried plugging in a pair of speakers, and they worked just fine. I guess maybe its just headphones? Or possibly, theses headphones as well as the other pair I tried were both made to have a mic in the cord. Maybe the signals are messing each other up?

Yeah they're plugged into a 3.5 jack When I said that the headphones work other places I meant to say that they work in the rear audio port fine. I'm starting to think it might be the case.

If you're still wondering 40 fps is definitely playable. Above 30 frames, your eyes really cant distinguish a difference. All console games run 30 fps (or maybe a little more (31,32)), so above that is great

Definitely go with arma 2 and download the dayz mod for that. It'll be awhile until the dayz standalone catches up and is bug-free. It depends on what you like though
