Pros: Tried and true chipset, linux, windows, windows server compatible. Small, low wattage, QUIET, stylish. Slot under faceplate for a laptop sized cd/dvd-rom Cons: barebone comes with no processor fan, no case fan, no cd-rom. Room for only 2 hard drives. NO CASE FAN Rumor has it that they...

March 2008: is Vista worth it?

I have a decently quick PC. AMD x2 4000, 2gb RAM, nvidia 7900gs. I dual boot both because of some of the weird issues I've had with Vista. Issues include horribly slow file transfer rates, sometimes media player won't even open up, plays, but doesn't open. Codec issues, just slow sometimes. Now...

    Nvidia's in trouble

Their graphics depo is fine, their chipset depo is fine. They'd have to REALLY F up to go down the drain. It seems too easy for them to just pop out new cards that easily beat out their previous. Sure the 9600 doesn't beat out their 8800gt, but it's not supposed to. It's a cheaper card, a good...

    Another New Build Assist

Looks pretty solid to me. I would go with a 650 watt and up PS to be safe, but everything else looks good.

    2gb PC1066 or 4gb PC800?

I would also like to hope you have screen shots of whatever you're doing on your PC that is taking an excess of 2gigs... I would go with 2gb's of 800 ram, reason is because good overclockable RAM at 800 is close to or better than 1066 simply because the price difference is not worth it!

CPU Upgrade...add more RAM or upgrade current?

If you do it right, find a good deal at newegg....say http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820141299 Which is 800 ram with a 4 latency. $38 after $10 MIR, + $5 shipping = $43, then sell your other 2 gigs on your local craigslist or ebay for $40 and pay $3 for faster RAM. Then...

    Holiday Buyer's Guide, Part 5

Sarah still doesn't make that Killer NIC card look any better to my bank account. That card should cost no more than $99 for the minimal difference it makes. RIP OFF If anyone is looking to blow useless cash, let me know. I will buy a $30 gigabit nic card, fabricate a big R heatsink and sell it...

New Gaming Computer - Vista Ultimate Or Xp Pro?

Xp Sp3 is just now reaching it's RC1 stage, will be a couple of months before it's out available to buy on shelves. What I did, slipstreamed a beta sp3 XP cd, installed it on one side, then installed vista 64 on the other side, no other way to truly see the difference on the same exact machine...

What kind of maintenance programs, do you install?

XP Service Pack 3 Beta Slipstreamed - RC1 Released, Help Please!!

No more ideas, create a new slipstream disc of the RC1 and wipe clean, there's a reason why it's a beta version....I know it's annoying to get all the software installed then have to do it again, you could always leave it the way it is until sp3 is public and wipe and reinstall

Vista does not connect to internet, help!

You try power cycling both modem, then the router? Then maybe restart Vista if it still doesn't connect. Vista is real picky about having "other" connections, will name it something like connection 2 or something.

New Gaming Computer - Vista Ultimate Or Xp Pro?

XP Pro! It will beat and b!tch slap Vista in performance any day! Your hardware is more than enough to handle vista but for pure game performance, go for xp pro. Look at getting a slipstreamed copy of the XP sp3 when it comes out to do a fresh install and you'll see a huge performance increase...

Macs can run vista better than pc's *Myth or reality*

All newer Macs running the intel procs can also run XP or Vista. The good thing about windows is that it will work with ALMOST every piece of hardware made under the sun as long as someone writes a driver for it...BIGGEST misconception about windows is people are quick to blame windows for...

AGP & PCIE boards any other's besides Asrock

Unless you haven't figured it out yet, the board you are running actually has something ECS calls an AGP-Express slot, when using an AGP card it dumbs the speed down to equal a PCI slots speed, so it's not nearly or even close to the speed of a normal 8x or even 4x AGP slot. Horrible design, but...
