Most of us have probably heard that Macs can run vista better than pc's. As far as I know the macs hardware is tweaked perfectly in compliance with the mac os. This being true, a pc user could duplicate a mac with hardware, or similar hardware. (and maybe be able to slide some graphics upgrades 😉 ) The thing is, how fair is it to say that a mac can run vista better than a pc when the pc has more customizable parts to put in it? I really do not want to start a mac vs vista debate, but rather what are the current feelings about the comment that Macs can run Vista better than pc's.

My own personal feeling is that its a cheap shot towards Vista that really holds little weight on anything.

Thoughts?

Mac OS's look for a proprietary chip which is installed on Apple computers. No Chip, No Install. Same applies in reverse - If the chip is there, Windows won't install. I've heard it's possible to hack the two. But out of the box? It's a no-go.

All newer Macs running the intel procs can also run XP or Vista.

The good thing about windows is that it will work with ALMOST every piece of hardware made under the sun as long as someone writes a driver for it...BIGGEST misconception about windows is people are quick to blame windows for issues when it could be the crap driver that came with the hardware that was poorly wrote.

So CAN macs run vista better than PC's, my guess is yes. Why? Well because the reason macs are good machines is because they use tried and tested hardware, that's compatible with each other, that isn't 50 different hardware vendors with 50 different drivers. One hardware to work with one motherboard, with one vid card... if you use your computer for normal internet, mediocre games, and music, graphics use, BUY A MAC, use bootcamp to dual boot Mac OSx and XP or Vista.

It is possible to get Mac OSx to run on a PC but it takes a lot of hacking and tweaking to make it work, and it still won't work right. There is a reason it only works on Macs, because they write the OSX to look for ONLY mac hardware, again another reason why it works so well. When you control the hardware and the software to run it, it's going to work 10 times better than windows with 100's of different variables!

Nice reply quicsilver, that clarifies alot. So technically a windows machine could run vista better than a mac if all of the drivers are perfect, right? Also, if this is true, couldnt that be false advertisement on apple's part?
