Got mine through MSDNAA (I'm a college student). What is with this Vista and back doors? I haven't been reading any Vista related articles. Do they have something like built-in spyware for monitoring contents of your hard drives?

I have been using Diskeeper for some time and I would recommend it. Not freeware though.

If you determine that your HDD is dead you can have a look around in the hard drives section of the forum - people have been sharing success stories of data recovery from dead drives and it may very well work for you too.

I put anything that "installs" (like games and applications) on the same drive and partition as the OS. I don't see a reason to separate them because if I wipe my OS I will want to reinstall them anyway. I also try to put data that I access often (like music files in my playlist) on my OS drive...

I think the probability of physical drive failure is so small that there is no real harm in RAID0. If you're going to lose data chances are that it's for another reason.
