News Chinese scientists use Starlink signals to detect stealth aircraft and drones

I dont think starlink is necessary mention here, as it should work the same with any EM wave emiter that is abundant in the wild. Issue is range and how many antenas, and how much compute you need for it. for me it feels like it depends on very short range effects, so it would use a lot of...

News 6.3 GHz Ryzen 9 9700X beats 7.1 GHz Core i9-14900KF in liquid nitrogen AVX showdown

you can use it a bit, as leaders in LN2 also do best in regular overclocking, at least with 9700x you can shove 170W on it, slap 360 AIO, and enjoy really nice performance for low cost. 7700x works even better if you dont OC the hell of out of them if we ever see them that is. Release date is...

News Samsung quietly launches 61.44TB SSD, talks about a 122.88TB model

I mentioned 2 U.2 options, I just tend to avoid it myself, after adapter failed one did fry the drive. Simpler is better, so PCIE option is my first recommendation. Don't buy cheap adapters, guys. Especially if you spend way over a grand for the ssd.

News Samsung quietly launches 61.44TB SSD, talks about a 122.88TB model

going above 8TB means serious investment. 2.5 and 3.5's are obsolete, everyone tries to use m.2 as their "define" form factor, and you can cram 8TB into that finger sized form, that's a miracle already. Any other sizes are m.2 chip, with different connector, that's why we see that 8TB limit as...

Question Why is my AMD GPU RX 580 crashing at idle state?

it crashes only on idle? like, load works fine? if so, then your issue is in driver, not in hardware. did you upgrade it recently? I would go back to last known good, or remove it and do clean reinstall. windows sometimes install broken versions, and can force it on you. try to follow this step...

News Analysts warn China's aggressive chip fab expansion could lead to future price war

I expect a flood of fake tech as well, those nodes make most of the 100TB pendrives on aliexpress. The problem with china is how unreliable they are as a supplier. You never know what you are getting in the end, and that is very annoying.

News 16-Pin Power Connector Gets A Much-Needed Revision, Meet The New 12V-2x6 Connector

The amount of juice we push through such tiny cables is already concerning. I double down on that, revision of those cables was long overdue.

News AMD's RX 7900 XTX Matches an RTX 4090, While Using 700W of Power

Yeah, it's more like showcasing it's doable, not a real retail card. I guess it could work with some garden hose sized watercooling setup. but that's likely the reason why AMD did not go for 4090 competitors. at full unlocked die, it would likely eat ~550W, and stil lget slapped in RT.

News Proton Slows Down RTX 4090, 4080 By 10% in Linux vs Windows 11 Gaming Benchmarks

it depends on what part you look at, it emulates windows libs, while api calls are translated, not emulated. but still its another layer in between that does something, so it should have a cost. 10% is damn decent for what it brings. That's another can of worms. Technically all and none of the...

Review Asus ROG Strix G16 Gaming Laptop Review: Beauty and Brawn

but, it's all just rainbow puke. Razor can pass as both gaming and work laptop. Its good they perform, but all the models look identically bad IMHO. If you want something normal, classic, you will have to step down with performance, or pick razor stealth.

News Apple 14-Inch MacBook Pro M2 Teardown Reveals Big Changes Due to Substrate Pricing

It's 2 sides coin, low mass means CPU will instantly go to max temp, and that's what you see on the m2. A big copper plate with embedded heat pipe would make temps climb much slower, which in turn would prolong the life of silicon. Fast jumps in temp usually means, thermal cracks. It's likely a...

News Tape Storage Soars While HDD Sales Crash

Yes, but I don't know how many. We have a machine to degauss and rewind them, I know we retired some that cracked casing, but otherwise they last literal forever. It takes like 10 min to empty it and start anew, and I cannot remember if any tapes failed after. Only one I recall came broken...

News Samsung 990 Pro SSDs Report Rapid Health Degradation

I believe, it's nothing to worry about, as first few weaker cells dying early is quite normal, afterwards it should stay at 98-95% for very long time. if it keeps dropping, then we should be worried. I would expect less of them on pricey drive, but, oh well.
