If this were a desktop, I would think the other monitor was the primary display in hardware, and that Windows switched back to the internal LCD.

I wonder if the transfer rate is slower with the SSD than it was with a HDD. Can You run HD Tune on the SSD (and preferably on the HDD?) It can tell us the transfer rate on each device.

I have seen that problem caused by the BIOS setting for the SATA Hard Disk getting changed. Maybe it was RAID now it's AHCI, or it was IDE now it's RAID. I had my BIOS SATA setting scrambled by a power failure a few minutes ago, so it can happen without your messing it up playing with it...
