Can I run Windows 95 on new hardware?

If you really want to experience the Windows 9x OS, just pick up an old windows 9x machine. They have them at thrift stores, even in recycling centers where you can get them free. I get lots of free computer stuff from transfer stations quite often. Just today I got an IBM PS2 keyboard...

    3.5" floppy drive for a 1997 computer

I have a surplus of old 3.5 fdd's (not saying they're for sale). They are ALL compatible with windows 95 as long as they are the IDE (PATA) interface, (NOT SCSI) which on the inside of a computer is a ribbon cable, slightly smaller than the CD-ROM/HDD IDE cables. A USB FDD won't work in this...

Windows 95 for 1.44MB Floppy Disks

The windows 95 floppies were compressed to save disk space. So it saved them from using extra floppies. If you can find a disk compression utility for modern windows, than you can use that on the 1.44 diskettes and it should hive you enough space to write the win 95 img to the disks.

    PC Shutting Down Randomly

Another possibiltiy is there is something touching the motherboard (screws, case side panel) and I've heard about it happening before. Even happened on my new 386 build. I needed to install stand offs so the mobo wouldnt touch the case metal.

    How to Install Windows 98?

I would look into finding an extra machine with windows 98 or 95 for legacy applications. I have computers as old as MS DOS 5.0 and WFW 3.11 and I can even get them on the web. Building and gaming on old PC's is quite a fun hobby :)
