Actually ... thinking further about this .... I've put in an echo for lights etc. Accordingly, a dream solution would be an "alexa, laptop on" command some how working but any kind of remote control type thing would be good.

You probably are aware of this but in case you are not.... the 2000 series has usb 3 the 1000 series has only usb 2 ... so file transfers to/from an external hard drive would be brutally slow.

Hmmm ... I think you are misinterpretting the ability of your TX-SR383. To decribe it as a "Atmos home theater" is not accurate. The 'height' channel that it allows for is not Atmos ... it cannot process either Atmos or DTS:X. The best it can do is Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD lossless surround codecs.

If after installing, you can't figure out how to enable the task bar display ... just give a shout and I'll walk you through it.
