I tested several and finally went with the Patriot Rage XT 16gb. Runs fast. Dont go with the drives that are on sale because you may get a good deal but will grow old waiting for them to work speed wise.

I have had the same problems in past. I took out the drive and put in an external enclosure with usb connection to test it that way.
