    When connected the green and black wire with a paper clip the fans started rotating on the case and the psu. I also tried connecting another 600W PSU but it failed to start the PC.

    Yes! That's what happens when you are building a PC late at night and tired! I had indeed plugged the wires upside down. Thanks all for your inputs.

    Thanks JitteRS and Barty1884. The cable is an using has pcie written in the other end. I think JitteRS is probably right. The cables do look upside down. Will check tomorrow and let you know.

    I see two power slots on the card. One has 8 holes and the other has 6 holes I have plugged in the 6+2 pin power supply configuration in the 8 hole slot. Are you suggesting I put one more 6 pin power supply in the other 6 hole slot?
