120mm liquid cooler or a big fat heat sink of same cost for Ryzen 1600x

Deepcool 400's are great air-coolers. Have used them in several PCs. That said, I've started experimenting with Kraken watercoolers and have been very happy. Definitely pricier. Both are very quiet.

    PC won't start up

You've probably already done this, but I'd check the wiring inside the case - things like the header stuff going to the front. Esp look at the one going to the power and reset. I'm not sure if anything going to a case fan could bring it to its knees like that. You might want to check the...

A Thank You for everyone on the forum.

In the interest of housekeeping I know forums like to have a best answer. I picked Techy Nicky as the best solution because of that cool Godzilla avatar - LOL. But I'm glad to see that other appreciate this place as much as I do. : )

A Thank You for everyone on the forum.

I've been coming here for years. All of my tech friends live on this board. I wanted to say thanks to the people who maintain it and all the people on it who have answered my questions over the years. It's great having a place where people share my fascination with technology. I appreciate that...

    PC won't start up

PC Parts Picker has a pretty good wattage estimator if you want to plug in your components and see if the PSU is up to driving all of them. It's kept me out of trouble. I had a similar issue with a new PSU and GPU. I worked fine until I put a load on the GPU. It was a Radeon and I'd swapped it...

    Is my motherboard dead?

It sounds dead. If that capacitor has a bulge on the top (where is is supposed to be flat) that is likely the issue. And they don't have to have a reason other than age so I wouldn't worry about the PSU or something. In a plasma TV or LED monitor it's worth less than 10 bucks to replace them. I...

GIGABYTE GA-H81.Amp-UP Blue Screen of Death

Hi. I've been looking through various threads and boards looking to see if this is a known problem. I cannot find anyone else having this. My Amp-Up Mobo apparently started rebooting, stopping the boot and general tom-foolery about a month after the initial build. I'm just finding out from the...

[SOLVED] Trying to read old iMac HD

I tried getting it to talk to my PC and using a network connection, but the super-long names on iMac that we used them from moving over (no idea why). As you said, trying a portable HD failed because of the different formats. FINALLY GOT I! I bought a 64G USB drive. No real formatting so the...

[SOLVED] Trying to read old iMac HD

Hello, Trying to get my PC to read an old iMac (just before Intel chips) HD. For fun I took a shot at just plugging it into my PC to see if it could see anything there..nope. Is there an adapter cable or software to let me access the iMac's HD? I'm trying to get at some very old photos and it's...

Looking for a good single-card, single monitor solution..

I've SLI'd before. Didn't like it. So yes you have it exactly right. It sounds like the 980 is the way to go. That said, I know sometimes for the money you are better with 2 cards since it removes a lot of chokepoints when you have two working together... Thanks again.

Looking for a good single-card, single monitor solution..

Thank you for the excellent responses. I've not seen huge jumps in GPUs reslution between the 1st tier and 2nd tier solutions - it's usually just more features (i.e. better support for multiple monitors) so I'll check the specs on both of those GPUs, but ask you if you in your opinion :Is the...

Looking for a good single-card, single monitor solution..

Going to be building either an OC'd i5 or i7 machine later this year. For now tho, I've got an aging G9650 and a OC edition of a 750i GPU w G-sync. I'm ready to pitch the old monitor and need something that this machine will drive (I assume G-sync) and still be useful when I move on to the i5...

    Upgrading Video sub-$200. 750ti Overclocked edition or R9 280?

Have an aging but respectable Q9650 - will be OCing it. Upgrading my youngsters gaming PC. Adding an SSD and video card, Ocing the CPU upgrading CPU cooler. (If I wanted to spend several hundred more I could get another system etc, but not interested right now.) I'm interested in pushing the...
