New SSD & trying to use Media Creation Too

MERGED QUESTION Question from Sean_34 : "How to fix altered bios settings" So, I bought a used laptop with windows 10 and an Ubuntu bootloader installed, however you needed to hit F12 and boot Windows manually because the boot order couldn't be changed. Since then, windows became unbootable on...

GNU GRUB; where do I start?

Long story short: bought a used laptop (Dell Inspiron 5551) with Win10 and Ubuntu bootloader installed, don't know what happened but I can't access Win10 anymore, can only access GNU GRUB (version 2.02~beta3-4ubuntu7). Bought a new 2.5" drive but can't use USB to clean install Windows onto new...

New SSD & trying to use Media Creation Too

I sort of alluded to it in my main post, but I'm unable to change anything. Trying to flash the BIOS to AO3, changing the boot order and also switching to "secure boot: off" don't stick. I continued to search around and found another post leading to an SPI bug in Ubuntu, which somehow altered...

New SSD & trying to use Media Creation Too

So, I bought a used Dell Inspiron 5551 from some guy who had an Ubuntu boot loader on it. He screwed something up and from that point on had to enter setup to choose the Windows loader, over the Ubuntu boot loader, manually. I planned on getting into Linux anyway, so I decided to take the...

Fuse turned off when I turned my psu on

There's no way for anyone here to know. If you want peace of mind, check your hard drives, run memtest, benchmark your rig and just do some general maintenance and you'll learn whether there's been a compromise.

    Computer suddenly won't work

Have you transported it anywhere between the time it worked and now? If you carried it down the street or just threw it in the back seat, then the GPU could have been damaged because the only thing supporting it is the PCIe slot itself and a couple screws, at the I/O port. I had to RMA a GPU...

Concern of bugs in PC case

If you just keep your home generally clean, vacuum and open your case once a month to clean the dust out, I imagine you'd be fine.

Spilled soda on power switch and reset button

What kind of case do you have? You may be able to separate that front I/O panel from the case, disassemble it, get a bottle of isopropyl alcohol, some cotton swaps, lintless cloth and detail clean it.

    Can't format write-protected SSD

TL;DR at bottom Long story short: Toshiba C55 failed > recovery, update rollback, reverting to past image, etc wouldn't even start without error > recovery media USB would stall out at 3% > tried advanced troubleshooting in cmd where Diskpart showed no partitions or volumes on the OS SSD (i'm...

    Recovery media not working

I think I will try downloading the media creation tool and try the clean Windows install. But I want to ask about one more thing. I'm using the command prompt for advanced troubleshooting and I've noticed a couple things. First off, if I take out the recovery media USB, (with the SSD set as the...

    Recovery media not working

Both the faulty laptop and the laptop I used to create the recovery media run Windows 10
